Welcome from Headteacher

Dear Parents and Carers,

Welcome to our school.

Harmans Water Primary School is a very special place and only by visiting, will you see why I am incredibly proud to be Headteacher of this school. I have a strong team working alongside me to ensure that together, we are providing the best learning opportunities for our children.

The website is designed to give a flavour of our school and for us to share with you key pieces of information. To know even more about our school, we welcome visitors to come and see us in action! You will see inspiring learning, friendly and happy children and an engaging learning environment.

Relationships (Nurture)

Positive relationships with our children, colleagues and parents are essential in order to ensure that every child is nurtured. This enables them to develop confidence and positivity to embrace learning and whatever demands come their way, both now and in the future.

Leadership (Inspire)

Leadership is incredibly important for all of our school community, as everyone has the opportunity to lead – both children and adults. We inspire children to come forward with their ideas to further improve the school, as well as learning lifelong skills. Staff are also given opportunities to lead, both big and small projects, to ensure they are the best they can be for our children.

Curriculum (Flourish)

Our curriculum is at the heart of every decision that we make and has been thoughtfully created to engage, stimulate and challenge every child enabling them to flourish and foster a love for life-long learning and curiosity of the world. The children are provided with a question and through the project-based learning, together as a team, they gather the information and find the answers. Further information and examples are here, on the website.

Values

Underpinning all of this is the school’s commitment to ensure that all of our children own our values to prepare them for the next phase of their educational journey, enabling them to make a positive contribution to the local community and wider world. Our school values run through everything that we do, including themes of the week, rewards that are given and feedback given to parents. Respect, Responsibility, Resilience, Teamwork, Thoughtfulness and Creativity we consider are all key values required to ensure children and staff improve every day. All of these values we strongly believe will ensure our children thrive to be the best version of themselves for their future.

Holistic approach

School is a place for learning but also an environment whereby children can excel in a wide range of areas to develop the whole child. We therefore ensure that we provide extracurricular opportunities for our children including sporting, drama, forest school, cooking, Headteacher for the day, school council leadership and essential experiences. Essential Experiences are opportunities for children to meet a range of different people, visit a range of different places and experience a range of different experiences by the time they leave us in Year 6.

Being a Headteacher is a privilege, as every day is unique. My role is to ensure that I will inspire staff to take risks, take on new challenges and progress. Children only get one opportunity to be in Primary School and because of that, as a school community, I want to ensure that children learn social and mental skills that will be crucial for their growth and success in the future. Education at Harmans Water offers a chance for self-discovery and to learn about their unique interests.

We very much welcome you to visit our school and see all of this for yourself.

Mrs Katherine Saunders
